Belize is largely covered with subtropical rainforest and is home to around 125 species of mammals, of which about 4% are threatened or endangered including the jaguar. Animal species found only in Belize include: Citheracanthus meermani, Cyllopsis wellingi, Epigomphus maya, Erpetegomphus leptophis, Metriopelma gutzkei, Poecilia teresae, Rana juliani, Reichlingia annae, and Rhamdia typhla
