Shoebill (Balaeniceps rex)

The Shoebill or Whalehead is a large bird -- standing up to 1.5 m or 60 inches tall -- that is related to the storks. The species is found in wetland areas in tropical east Africa and is listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List for 2006.
