Photos of the Orangutans in Indonesia

All images are the property of Rhett A. Butler / mongabay.com, copyright 2006. Contact me regarding use and reproduction.

These pictures were taken in Indonesia's Tanjung Puting National Park at two rehabilitation centers: Camp Leaky and Pondok Tanggui. There are some pictures of completely wild orangutans.

Camp Leaky and Pondok Tanggui are rehabilitation facilities established by Orangutan Foundation International (OFI) to help ex-captive orangutans return to their native rainforest environment. OFI has a number of facilities in and around Tanjung Puting. The organization was founded in 1986 by Dr. Biruté Mary Galdikas and her former doctoral student, Dr. Gary Shapiro.
