Emergent canopy tree felled for timber in Gabon

The bushmeat trade is closely tied to logging in some parts of Gabon. Logging roads grant access to hunters who send meat back to the capital city of Libreville. A recent study found some hunters use the proceeds to purchased tinned sardines, effectively trading fresh meat for less nutritious products shipped from abroad. Due to the distances that wildlife products are shipped without refrigeration, more than half the meat in a shipment is typically rotten.
